Neji continued to walk down the lonely path, his sandal soles white with chalky stone. His left hand gripped the rough cloth of his pack, yanking it down against his chest. His right arm swung automatically beside him, in sync with his determined step. The isolated trail meandered curiously through the mountainous terrain of the land of Earth. The stretch of stone wound over large expanses of hill and plain, and Neji followed it dutifully. He of all people truly believed that it was best to stay to the given path, or at least not to stray too far.
He stopped and pondered the clouds in the sky; they darkened like shadows falling over the sunlit world. They snuffed out the light of day, smearing the sky with pastel shades of gray. The distant clouds spilled paint over the landscape, blurring it into a featureless fog.
Neji stared at the rain-soaked clouds in the distance expectantly. He should expect a storm - and from the looks of it, a big one. If the winds were moving as fast as they seemed, the first signs of rain would present themselves soon. He should probably seek shelter. He scanned the land for any promising sign - a tree, a cave...
His spirits lifted at the sight - red eaves peeking over a nearby hill, nestled into the landscape. Neji made his was towards the structure and found it to be a small, pleasant tea shop. A woman stood behind the counter with a burly looking man, but due to the remoteness of the location there were but few customers. As he drew closer, a small windowed room came into view behind the open walls of the shop. The white, canvas sheets of tavern beds poked up behind the window glass. He would rest here until the sky cleared.
Just as I thought, Neji pondered, craning his neck to the sky. The first drop of rain splashed on his shoulder, and more were sure to follow.
